Wei hun qi (1926)
Drama • 1h 30m
The literal translation of the title of this movie is: the Fiancee. This movie of the early Chinese movie industry made before the pre-revolutionary China in the 1926 failed in the box office for two reasons:First, it is not a pure martial arts flick, a topic common of its time and a topic that guarantee the box office success.Second, the topic it picked was far too advanced for its time because China was dominated for two thousand years by the traditional feudal system in which the marriage is strictly arranged by the parents of both sides and when this movie was made, the system was abolished just one and a half decade ago, the audience was not ready yet for something as new as those depicted in the movie.
