On one of his visits in picturesque Paris, King Leopold II of Belgium decides to break the current land speed record by covering the distance between the Parisian capital and the sunny Monte-Carlo in two hours flat, instead of having to endure the tiresome seventeen-hour journey by an express train. Without delay, the overambitious aristocrat waves off the cheerful and curious crowd of celebrities and music-hall performers gathered in front of the iconic Paris Opera House, zooming off in his four-wheeled bolide to the majestic French Alps, in complete disregard for every law of nature. Is there a limit in man's will? In the end, will Leopold's intrepid chauffeur make it in time to win the bet and save the monarch's reputation?
