Sadly, selfish greed and an insatiable thirst for profit, combined with sheer technical inadequacy, have contaminated the waters of the mid-1930s spa-town of Nea Apolloniada with a life-threatening pathogen. As a spate of typhoid fever cases terrorises the small community, the idealistic physician, Dr Stavros Voutsinas, finds himself with the back to the wall, as his first cousin, Petros, the town's corrupt mayor and director of the spa, refuses to take action. Now, a fierce head-on collision between the two men and their conflicting interests is inevitable, while, more and more, hatred takes over, and, one after another, the local press, and the gullible inhabitants turn their backs on the once-beloved doctor. Is there a place in this town for an enemy of the people?
