1949. Against the backdrop of rugged, mountainous Epirus, shortly after the defeat of the Democratic Army of Greece during the Greek Civil War, Vasiliki, a communist sympathizer, has a fateful encounter with Leonidas, a burly police sergeant. As the love-smitten officer gives in to lust under volatile circumstances, a dangerous, forbidden affair begins to bloom, putting the mismatched clandestine couple in harm's way. But more and more, as one thing leads to another and bold aspirations turn into dust, blinding infatuation gives way to bitter resentment, and freedom is at stake. Can there be love in times of trouble?
