Ye Happy Pilgrims (1934)
Approved 03 Sep 1934 • Animation, Short, Comedy • 0h 10m
There are plenty of Christmas cartoons; there are plenty of stories set at Christmas time and, in a pinch, Dickens can always be plundered for yet another version of "A Christmas Carol". Likewise, Hallowe'en is well represented in animation. After that, there are a few cartoons intended for the Fourth of July.Thanksgiving becomes a problem. You can tell the story of the First Thanksgiving or, as here, you can plunder Longfellow for the story of "The Courtship of Miles Standish". There are pilgrims with buckles on their hats. Good enough. That's what Walter Lantz' staff did here. He fills out the story with some good sight gags and the result is a good cartoon.
