It's literally raining pitch forks -- that can happen in a cartoon, you know -- so wet, bedraggled, muddy Elmer the Great Dane leaves his dog house and seeks refuge in Oswald's cottage. Oswald wants him to leave, until the dog begins to sneeze. At that, Oswald tries to make him comfortable and tend to the poor pooch in this very funny Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon.I've seen these gags before, many of them in Disney's 1934 PLAYFUL PLUTO. To be honest, there isn't much in the way of new gags since SLiding Billy Watson invented slipping on a banana peel some time about 1990, and Charlie Murray was tormented by a Murphy Bed in 1915. It's the way the gags are grouped and executed that makes a comedy good, and this one groups and executes them very well indeed. It did make me wonder briefly if a mustard plaster has anyy medical value. Then I saw Elmer swallow bullets instead of cold tablets and sneeze them out like a machine gun.
