Grandma keeps throwing out grandpa's pipe whenever he lights up some tobacco. So, when Grandpa's beard catches on fire and the firemen refuse to wake up, it's up to Felix to drive the fire wagon and save the day.This rare Felix the Cat cartoon showed up recently on the British Pathe Youtube site and a viewing shows why it's rare. While a perfectly enjoyable silent cartoon, it lacks much of the extreme and wacky internal logic that made Felix such a cartoon star.Perhaps producer Pat Sullivan was cutting back on staff because he was uncertain of how to market Felix in the sound era. Alas, Felix would not make a smooth transition. He would retire in 1930 and despite a couple of comeback attempts, would never again be the great star he had been.
