A boarding school for girls is in financial troubles when the founder's Finnish-American son Charles Thompson Jr. (Tauno Palo) is coming to inspect the school. He proves out to be quite a ladies' man and instantly takes a liking to a teacher named Tuula Vihervo (Birgit Kronström). The self-confident teacher isn't easy to woo though, as she is determined to save the school from being closed by earning extra money as a singer. The other staff members of the school aren't all enthusiastic about Thompson's antics but the financial situation forces them to play along.Besides Thompson's romantic advances, the comedy is mainly based on the characters trying to hide the truth from each other: Tuula doesn't want to be known as a singer, the school's janitor Napoleon (Aku Korhonen) tries to keep his second job a secret and the headmistress (Aino Lohikoski) wouldn't want to reveal the lack of money to Thompson. There is also some romantic jealousy in the air as Tuula's fellow teacher Esko (Kullervo Kalske) is also fond of her. There are many things to enjoy in the film, such as Tuula's songs, Kronström's perky performance and Aku Korhonen's sympathetic worrying as Napoleon, but in the end the humour isn't very imaginative and the plot feels quite predictable. Also, I feel the ending comes across as too hasty, considering the characters' nature and behaviour before. Fans of old Finnish comedies should enjoy the movie alright though.
