William Powell and Myrna Loy starred in a line of 'Thin Man' movies and this couple in detection could very well be the inspiration for Johan Jacobsen when teaming lawyer Gunnar Lauring with Beatrice Bonnesen in their humorous talks trying to find head and tails in the mysteries they indulge in. The crime detection couple was introduced the year before as a team in 'Tag det som en mand' and the erotic twists take a full turn when Edvin Tiemroth arrives as a Swedish lumberjack reminding of Ralph Bellamy in the Cary Grant movies 'The awful Truth' and 'His Girl Friday'. Johan Jacobsen executed a fine balance between story ingredients and actor direction in a number of excellent movies, and 'Ballade i Nyhavn' belongs to the best of them. Broad comedian Christian Arhoff avoids going over the top in silly gags this time, and together with two other able actors they perform a crime trio in some way resembling of the later successful Olsen- banden. There is a fine atmosphere in the bar scenes. Johan Jacobsen remade the film in 1956 under the title 'Den store gavtyv'.
