Ten Monologues from the Lives of the Serial Killers (1994)
01 Sep 1994 • Crime, Drama • 1h 0m
The structure of this film is literally that of the title: ten monologues adapted from various fiction and documentary sources which combine to produce an unsettling work that does not pretend to analyze nor to understand the serial killers. The film is not a work of fiction with dramatic plot developments. There are simply ten monologues - from the lives of the serial killers.Found footage and pornography are vital elements in a film about cultural disintegration in as much as both are debris. By dislocating sound and image from their original context, the taken for granted assumptions that govern our experience of the real are undermined and subverted in order to bring the audience closer to the experience of rupture. The serial killers embody this rupture. They are the forerunners of a new cultural sensibility that is rapidly gaining momentum.
