Rosita, please! (1994)
17 Jun 1994 • Comedy • 1h 31m
What would happen if Rosita, a voluminous and temperamental diva of the opera, should precipitately abandon the shoot of "Tristan and Isolde" in Hollywood on hearing that the producer isn't going to offer her the leading role in his next film, "Romeo and Juliette"? And what if Rosita were to travel to Bulgaria at the invitation of Frank, a friend from her youth, who, in an attempt to get over a past love, has opened a restaurant in Plovdiv specializing in Valencian cooking? And what if besides this, Quim, an ex-lover of Rosita¹s who in a matter of 24 hours has lost his job, his home, his clothes, his memory and a mysterious suitcase full of money, should bump into the diva at Sofia airport, and she were to take advantage of her young friend's amnesia to seduce him? And if a love-potion were to cause Quim, on a tour of the Monastery of Rila, to fall madly in love with Tina, the young opera singer who is to play the part of Juliette, and who turns out to be Frank's ex-girlfriend? And if Tina's best friend, Manoli, a tourist guide with a severe complex resulting from her childhood traumas, should end up dating Frank? And if, on top of it all, the producer of the film should travel to Bulgaria in order to fetch Rosita back, only to become yet another victim of a magic elixir and fall in love with the driver of Manoli's tourist coach? A fairy tale which mixes the music of Wagner with rose wine, in a land where "yes" means "no". A tender comedy which tells us how Orpheus descended to hell to retrieve an old love. Because Shakespeare never said how much his Juliette weighed!
