This film is inspired by a 14th-century Mester de Clerecía work. In medieval Spain. Manolo is the protagonist of the story, playing Juan Ruíz (a renowned poet), who continues his fight for good love. Protected from bathhouse owner Zubeida, he composes his verses and recites them to the people. By some of them he has differences with the religious authority and is imprisoned. An envoy of the Archbishop of Toledo releases him and tries to convince him to enter into service to the Church.
