Igrok (1972)
01 Dec 1982 • Drama • 1h 40m
The story clearly has dramatic potential, comprising as it does family conflict, romantic troubles and the changing fortunes of the roulette wheel.Certainly the camera work is dramatic with lots of cuts and close ups and the cast and settings are fairly strong. However, I found myself rather unengaged. The telling of the story with repeated flashbacks distances one, as does the muted colour palette and the very 'shouty' scenes of self dramatising and inconsistent characters. The plot has somewhat clichéd elements. Despite this, I found it a little difficult to follow the twists and turns through various non sequiturs and apparent snatches of conversation.Others clearly don't agree from the scores but as this film didn't have a review, I wanted to start the ball rolling.
