It Was Not in Vain (1957)

Fantastic horror - thriller story. Young doctor Jure returns after ten years in the birthplace mainly swampy spot Krnje to take over the office of a local physician Djuka Radich, who soon go in retires. Jura's fashionable wife Vera is not very happy because Jure takes office in such a backward area. But he feels that he must somehow repay the old doctor, who was the best friend of his late father and helped him after his father's death in the studies in Zagreb. Local residents, however, have more confidence in the swamp witch and self-proclaimed female doctor called Charka, sinister Radak's (who allegedly died in 1945) mother. Jure therefore has almost no patients and his attempt to vaccinated rural children against typhoid ends in a fiasco. The only sympathy among the population of marsh villages Jure is located in a young Mia Kladare, and as time passes more and more becomes close with the 17-year-old Djuka's daughter as well as a very attractive and charming Bojko. At about the time of Jure's arrival, in the end, the frequent suspicious deaths, more and more of a floater in the swamp.
