Loosely based on Carl Millöckers operetta "Der Bettelstudent," the film deals with the revolt of students and landed gentry in Poland against the authority of Colonel Ollendorf. Two students on the run were captured by soldiers and sent to prison. As Countess Laura rejects Ollendorf's advances, he seeks revenge. He promises to set the students free when one of them is willing to marry the countess. All seems to run smoothly, but Ollendorf has to face the phalanx of the insurrectionists.
