Rocambole (1947)

In Paris, in the middle of the 19th century, the Count de Chamery died of poisoning, leaving a considerable fortune to his long-lost son. Sir William, the earl's murderer, hires a young rogue, Rocambole, to pretend to be the son of the deceased. The two accomplices are given the fortune of the count. But their deception is discovered by an intriguing, Baccarat, who finds the real Count de Chamery, a young painter without fortune, in love with Carmen de Montevecchio. Rocambole, who will stop at nothing, kills Sir William, gets rid of Armand and is loved by Carmen. But Baccarat is determined not to let him continue his villainies.
