Deepak, an educated and unemployed but merry go lucky poor young man, lives with his mother. He is looking for a job and does everything possible to get one. He comes across an advertisement for a job as private secretary to Rajsaheb Pahadganj. He arrives for interview with his close friend Jaggu, but mistaken as Surendra Kumar, son of Col. Girijishankar OBE CIE Bahadur, who is also at the same place for a possible matrimonial match with Rajasaheb's daughter Bina Kumari. Desperate for a job and money, Deepak carries on disguising as Surendra and eventually falls in love with Bina. However, afraid of dire consequences, if caught, Deepak and Jaggu run away leaving Bina in a state of shock and disbelief. Jaggu lands at a job as Girijishankar's private secretary and gets Deepak a job as teacher. Before they could settle down with their respective jobs, events lead Rajsaheb and his family to attend a party at Girijashankar's home. Deepak and Jaggu's cheating busted, and they are kicked out. This also create a rift between Rajasaheb and Girijashankar's families, subsequently, leading Surendra ditch Bina and vis-a-vis. Realizing Bina's immense love, Rajasaheb marries her off to Deepak.
