On the day of her Long Island wedding, a woman (Kay Francis) elopes with a wedding usher (Pat O'Brien) who happens to be her fiancé's (Ralph Forbes) business partner in a New York City advertising agency. A year later, her grifting father (Thurston Hall) embezzles most of the money in this advertising agency and absconds to Europe. In the meantime, her husband undertakes to solve the agency's money problems while keeping his wife completely in the dark. Unfortunately, he and his wife's former fiancé clash in their working philosophy and he ends up quitting. In an effort to support her husband, his wife decides to pitches his campaign to the client and and wins the account. This leads to their estrangement and he leaves to tour the world on a tramp steamer. When he returns, he has a confrontation while his wife is speaking at a woman's business forum. He then accepts a position with a rival agency and they are in head-to-head competition for business. He begins to win business accounts away to the point where their business is struggling. His agency buys out their company. She quits as a result, she refusing to work with him and in addition demanding a divorce. While waiting in the divorce lawyer's office, they reconcile.
