Lon Cardigan (Johnny Mack Brown) and his sweetheart, Bobbie Reynolds (Claire Rocvhelle), are bewildered when her father, Jeff Reynolds (Frank LaRue), fires all of his cowhands and hires a motley gang of thugs. Lon accept's Reynold's offer of the job oh herd boss. It soon becomes apparent that Reynolds is dominated by John Porter (Edward Cassidy) for some reason. A group of squatters informs Lon they are being evicted from their homesteads because Reynolds has , at public auction, bought up the entire strip pf land which they always considered their own under squatter's rights. Because of this, Lon quits Reynolds and sides with the squatters. Calico Haynes, the ranch cook, steals a piece of paper from Porter which shows Reynolds is deeding all of the land he acquired to Porter under some kind of compulsion.
