25 Nov 1935 • Comedy, Drama • 1h 24m
The sculptress Tora Diidiken is a celebrity, both as an artist and as a socialite. Her 4th husband, the sculptor Gunnar Grahn, loves her deeply, but is jealous of her success. When he receives an invitation to participate in a competition to win the commission of adorning the square in Broköping with a new monument, he is excited. He tells Tora that he has to stay some weeks alone in their cottage, to work on a new statue, but he doesn't mention the competition. It is the rich widow Carolina Berg, who has donated 1 million kronor for this purpose. At a dinner party Carolina persuades the astute politician Lars Larsson to nominate her son Per-Olof as a top candidate for the regional election. In exchange his daughter Märta will become the fiancée of her son. In Stockholm Per-Olof happens to meet Tora Diidiken, who in him sees the ideal model for her new statue. Per-Olof is enamored of Tora, and breaks his engagement with Märta. Lars Larsson gets furious and tries to stop Per-Olof's political career. Tora wins the competition in Broköping with her statue, and when Gunnar reads that he has been beaten by his own wife, he wants to divorce her. Tora goes to Broköping to sort things out, and to win her husband back.
