Ruth (Ruth Etting), singing demonstrator of popular sheet-music songs in a Broadway music shop, falls in love with a handsome customer (Humphrey Bogart) who constantly finds way to avoid marriage. The fact that he is already married to a burlesque chorus girl (Mary Philips) is eventually learned by Ruth.
