Countess Helene Orloff is engaged to Iva, whose friends waylay her on her way to a fête. They take her to an inn and cast lots for her, and Sascha wins. She escapes but Sascha's father, the Grand Duke, misunderstanding what happened, accuses Helen of being a Nihilist and orders her deported to Siberia. She escapes to Vienna where she becomes a café dancer. The traveling Sascha comes to the café, neither recognizes the other, and they fall in love. She tells him of her experience in Russia and tells him she will have her revenge. Sascha realizes she is the girl he and his friends mistreated. She recognizes Nicholas, a friend of Sascha, and swears she will kill him. Sascha then confesses he was the man who did her wrong Nicholas and Sascha go to war and when peace comes, the revolutionists are in power and Sascha has to flee Russia. He becomes a waiter in Vienna where he again meets Helene.
