When rich Jack Talbot falls in love with Rose Kirby, a common girl, fearing his mother's disapproval, he does not marry her. Rose later marries Clyde Bainbridge, a rotter who knows that, under the terms of a secret contract, Rose will inherit the Talbot iron-works. Rose finds the contract, but, mistrusting her husband, does not make use of it. Talbot marries a vamp, who later dies in childbirth. Clyde is accidentally killed by Rose's demented grandfather. Rose and Talbot then return to each other, finding together a long-delayed happiness.
