Although the Internet Movie Database credits direction of this episode in the long-running Bray series to Vernon Stallings, the copy I saw had Walter Lantz in the role and used his style of live/animation mix for the beginning and end of this cartoon.Although mostly forgotten nowadays, Bray was the leading animation studio in this period, challenged only by Pat Sullivan and his enormously popular Felix the Cat, and by Max Fleischer, who had broken away from Bray a short time before. Disney? He was someone for Mary Jane Winkler, who distributed Walt's cartoons, to threaten Fleischer with -- she also distributed Fleischer.Anyway, how is this cartoon? Pretty good, if no world-beater. Heeza Liar was a club bore who told Munchausen-style stories. In this one he tells of how he was a knight when he was a youngster and defeated a brigand. The gags are not great, but they are told with some good humor. In addition, the technical quality of the cartoon, including elaborate background art for the period makes this very watchable.
