Sheriff Andy Craig and blacksmith Rufus Sanborn of the small town of Quinine are both in love with Mary Mason. Mary's mother, however, is pushing her to marry Percy Smallwood, who is about to inherit a lot of money. She turns down the sheriff's marriage proposal due to her mother's pressure. Things get complicated when Percy is falsely accused of fathering a child out of wedlock with a girl from a neighboring town and the sheriff has to arrest him and put him in jail.
