After graduating from a dramatic school, Della Arnold joins a traveling company. While driving through a storm to their engagement in the next town, she and actor Julian Lawrence are compelled to stop at an inn for the night, where he tries to attack her, but she forcefully repels him. In New York, Myrtle Harris introduces Della to George Addison, who secures a job for her as a model for artist Wilbur Henderson. Della and Wilbur become engaged, but one evening, the artist meets Julian, who relates a highly embroidered version of what transpired at the inn. When George learns that Wilbur suddenly has broken with Della, he proposes to her, and she accepts on the condition that he hear of her past experience with Julian. She tells her story, and when his faith in her remains unshaken, Della happily accepts his hand.
