This is just a comedy short (7 minites or so), although this is not indicated in the entry, one of a series of "Peladilla" films (very straightforward imitations of Chaplin) made by Benito Perojo early in his long but not very distinguished career. The only adaptation if interest is the addition (fairly typical of European comic series cf for instance the later films of André Deed or the "Léonce" films of Léonce Perret) of a female partner (Clarita played by Maria Moreno). It is an indication of how early Chaplin's international reputation was established and a reminder, if one was needed, that his fame, internationally as well as in the US, was not based on the sympathetic, warm-hearted character that people tend to associate today (based on later films) with the "little tramp" but on the truculentt, often violent and drunken, character of the earlier films....In this film Peladilla is a violent husband and a drunk and not in the least bit amusing. At one point, in jealous rage, he comes near to blinding his mother-in-law. The bullfight (although nothing new and nothing spectacular) is the most interesting (and least violent) part of the film.
